With a size up to 8' long, these often shy fish are found typically in dens in and around rocky reefs. Their large head and large mouth have teeth and jaws that can crush the crabs and urchins that make up their diet.
Males and females are often found in the same den and are thought to pair up for many seasons or possibly for life.
Divers often see these fish at The Rock at Whiskey Point, Grouse Island, April Point Reef and recently have been found at Steep Island.
